Employment First Team Receives Recognition

The Employment First Team of the Larimer County Workforce Center, which consists of Katrina Daniel, Judy Kindstrom, Cathy Lujan, Fran Petrilli, and Maureen Harter received their second state award at a recent Employment First Conference for the Highest Rate of Employment First Customers Obtaining Employment in a Large County (highest percentage of program customers who gained employment).

Employment First is a federally mandated program designed to ensure that all able-bodied food stamp participants are engaged in activities that will improve their employability. The program is administered by the Colorado Department of Human Services, and currently operates in 45 Colorado counties.

All individuals who apply for food stamps in Colorado and who do not meet federal exemption criteria must participate in Employment First activities. These activities include: community service, adult basic education, GED preparation, literacy, vocational rehabilitation, job search classes, and part-time work.

The award received by the Larimer County Workforce Center's Employment First program is a direct result of the dedicated partnership between the Larimer County Department of Human Services and the Larimer County Workforce Center and their personal commitment to providing the best services to customers. Without the cooperation and collaboration of both organizations, this recognition would not have occurred.
