Objective: Appointments to the Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority (LETA)

Situation: Under state statute, the Board of County Commissioners is responsible for making appointments to the Emergency Telephone Authority. Pursuant to the LETA intergovernmental agreement, the fire districts in the county and the small towns in the county each have one representative on the Board. These groups collaborate on a single recommendation to the Board for this representation.

Proposal: LETA recommends that Steve Charles of the Berthoud Fire Protection District be appointed as the representative of county fire districts and Wes Kufeld, Chief of the Estes Park Police Department be appointed as the representative of small towns in Larimer County

Advantages: * Provides diverse representation on LETA

Disadvantages: * Possible over representation from the Estes Park area

Requested action: That the Board appoint Steve Charles of the Berthoud Fire Protection District be appointed as the representative of county fire districts and Wes Kufeld, Chief of the Estes Park Police Department be appointed as the representative of small towns in Larimer County to two year terms on the Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority beginning January 1, 2010.
