What the above data tell us:

Most abuse occurs in a child's home; however abuse can also occur in out-of-home placement. Out-of-home placements may be licensed by either Larimer County or Colorado. According to the Children, Youth & Family Division of Larimer County Human Services, the average number of children placed in Colorado-licensed placements has been declining because of a county-wide push to place children with relatives, particularly if they live in Larimer County. It has been determined that outcomes are normally better if children remain close enough for their parents to regularly visit them.

See Children in Out-of-Home Placement for more information on county- and state-licensed placements.
