What these data tell us:

According to the 2000 Census, Colorado and Larimer County have fewer senior households than in the United States. In Larimer County this was generally true, although community ratios varied widely. Estes Park, for example, is known as a 'resort' community, and has the highest percentage of seniors at 26.0%, compared to the national rate of 21.0% and the county rate of 15.3%. Timnath-Wellington, on the other hand, had the lowest rate of seniors at 11.5%, most likely due to the influx of growth aimed at families.

What these data tell us:

According to the 2000 Census, Larimer County had a slightly lower median age (33.2 years) than the national median age (35.3 years). However, the median age in Larimer County cities and towns varied. Fort Collins had the lowest median age (29.3 years), while Estes Park and Livermore were considerably older (45.5 and 44.6 years, respectively). One reason for the low median age in Fort Collins is its large student population attending Colorado State University, while the higher median ages in Estes Park and Livermore could be attributed to the presence of higher percentages of senior citizens in both areas (see data table). In 2008, Larimer County's median age (34.5 years) continued to remain below the national median age (36.9 years). American Community Survey 2008

According to the 2008 American Community Survey, Larimer County has a lower percentage of children under the age of 14 than either Colorado or the nation. There are a larger percentage of residents between the ages of 15 and 34, which is partially due to the presence of a large university, Colorado State University, in Larimer County.
