What these data tell us:

Mortality rates for both males and females in Larimer County decreased overall between 1997 and 2007. This appears to be part of a nationwide decline in mortality rates for males during this period, primarily due to decreasing rates of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Average mortality rates during this period were higher in males (836 per 100,000) than females (611 per 100,000). Mortality rates for Larimer County females have been declining since 2001 in all likelihood because of a decline in death due to cardiovascular disease and breast cancer.

Males and females in Larimer County have lower mortality rates than males and females nationwide. From 2005 to 2006, age-adjusted death rates decreased nationally by 2.8% for males and 2.9% for females. During this same period, age-adjusted death rates for males in Larimer County dropped by 12.4% and by 5.6% for females. (National Vital Statistics Reports, Preliminary Data for 2006)

What these data tell us:

In Larimer County, the mortality rate of the white population is slightly higher than for the other populations. In 2007, white residents made up 85% of the population and accounted for 94% of the total deaths, while Hispanics made up about 10% of the population and accounted for 4% of the total deaths. This result appears to be influenced by the predominance of the white population (see Population by Race & Ethnicity page) and a larger proportion of elderly White residents (10%) in comparison to Hispanic residents (6%) in Larimer County.
