What these data tell us:
The monthly average number of transient people held in the Larimer County Detention Center has decreased nearly 139% since 2005 from 25.8 transients per month to 10.8 in 2008. The most likely reason for the decline is a reduction in the number of times the same person is held at the Detention Center. The data suggest it is more likely transients will be brought to the Detention Center during the warmer months of the year.It is important to remember 1) the charts represent the raw numbers rather than rates per population and 2) the data represent the total number of incarcerations, but each transient may have been incarcerated one or more times. Frequently the same person will be arrested several times in a year or month, making it impossible to determine a total number of non-duplicated transients that were detained.
