2008 Important Election Dates

January 1 Tuesday Earliest day to apply for a mail-in ballot for 2008. Permanent mail-in ballot voters do not need to reapply.
January 7 Monday Last day to register to vote for the February 5 precinct caucus.
February 5 Tuesday Precinct Caucus Day
March 31 Monday First day to circulate major/minor party candidate petitions for the primary election.
May 29 Thursday Last day to file major/minor party candidate petitions for the primary election.
June 6 Friday Last day a write-in candidate can file an Affidavit of Intent for the primary election.
June 17 Tuesday Last day to file an unaffiliated candidate nomination petition (no later than 3:00 p.m.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Mail-in ballot packets are mailed to voters approximately 30 days prior to the August 12 primary election. Mail-in ballots are sent to permanent mail-in voters and voters who requested a mail-in ballot specifically for the primary election.

July 14 Monday Last day to register to vote for the primary election. Last day to change or withdraw from major political party affiliation. Registered unaffiliated voters may declare a party affiliation at the polls for the primary election.
August 4 - 8 Monday - Friday Early voting (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays).
August 5 Tuesday Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot for the primary election if the ballot is to be mailed.
August 8 Friday Early voting ends at 5:00 p.m. Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot for the primary election if the ballot is not to be mailed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There is no early voting on Monday, August 11.

August 12 Tuesday PRIMARY ELECTION (polls are open from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.). All mail-in ballots and emergency mail-in ballots must be received by the County Clerk and Recorder no later than 7:00 p.m. Postmark dates do not count for mail-in ballots.
August 20 Wednesday Last day for mail-in voters to correct signature discrepancies or missing signatures.
August 25 Monday Last day for the County Board of Canvassers to prepare official Abstract of Votes for the primary election. Primary election results are not official until this time.
August 26 Tuesday Last day for a write-in candidate to file an Affidavit of Intent for the general election.
September 19 Friday Last day to file pro/con comments pertaining to local ballot issues with the designated election official in order to be included in the issue mailing.

October 6 Monday Last day to register to vote for the general election.
October 20 - October 31 Monday - Friday Early voting (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays)
October 28 Tuesday Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot for the general election if the ballot is to be mailed.
October 31 Friday Early voting ends at 5:00 p.m. Last day to apply for a mail-in ballot for the general election if the ballot is not to be mailed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There is no early voting on Monday, November 3.

November 4 Tuesday GENERAL ELECTION (polls are open from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.). All mail-in ballots and emergency mail-in ballots must be received by the County Clerk and Recorder no later than 7:00 p.m. Postmark dates do not count for mail-in ballots.
