                     POSITION TITLE:   SEASONAL TRUCK DRIVER

                STARTING SALARY:   $14.00 PER HOUR

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, A COMPLETED LARIMER COUNTY EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION, ALONG WITH A DRIVER’S SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION, MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.

 

If you receive an interview for this position, then you must bring to the interview a copy of your MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVING RECORD for the preceding three years.  This record must include information from the appropriate agency of every State in which you held a motor vehicle operator’s license or permit during the preceding three years and the report cannot be more than 30 days old.

 

IF AN OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT IS MADE, THE OFFER IS CONTINGENT UPON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A DRUG SCREENING TEST.  A SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION IS DEFINED AS OBTAINING A NEGATIVE DRUG SCREENING RESULT.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·         Perform basic tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of County roads, bridges, and related facilities, including activities such as operating a tandem dump truck, grading and compacting, culvert installation and cleaning, cattle guard installation and cleaning, guardrail installation and repair, concrete placing and finishing, paving, patching, crack sealing, and chip sealing.

·         Perform heavy physical and arduous labor for extended periods of time out-of-doors in all weather conditions, day or night, including activities and physical demands requiring strength to lift, carry, push, pull, and otherwise move objects of up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and the demands on a constant basis of talking, hearing, listening, ordinary conversation, seeing (near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, and field of vision), gross and fine motor skills coordination while standing, walking, and kneeling for long periods of time.

·         Use hand tools and operate powered devices such as compaction equipment, water pumps, wood chippers, generators, single axle trucks, rubber-tired and steel wheel vibratory rollers, farm tractors with mower, broom, rock rake, and other attachments, and similar types of equipment used in roadway construction and maintenance.

·         Perform minor maintenance and repair on equipment.

·         Build, install, and repair wooden structures such as form work, walls and decks, fences, and railings.

·         Build, install, and repair metal structures such as signs, guardrails, cattle guards, and mailboxes.

·         Perform skilled tasks in the repair, maintenance, and construction of roads and bridges.

·         Perform flag person duties as appropriate.

OTHER DUTIES:

·         Perform related duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

·         Technical terms pertinent to road construction materials, methods, terminology, and practices, including traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in truck and equipment operations, as well as those associated with the licenses and certificates shown below.

·         Methods, techniques, and safe practices used in constructing and maintaining roads and bridges.

Ability to:

·         Work independently in the absence of supervision.

·         Work well with others in understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions under the supervision of a Team Leader, District Supervisor, or higher grade personnel while following safe operating practices, rules, and procedures during normal work week, weekends, and occasional holidays.

·         Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, and the public.

·         Qualify for a CDOT Flagging Certificate.

Experience:

·         Possession of a valid CDL Class "B" Driver's License without “L” restriction.

·         Possession of a valid CDL Class "B" Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement preferred.

·         One year experience driving a Class “B” vehicle or can provide proof of New Driver Training preferred.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

·         Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
