                 STARTING SALARY:   $15.53 PER HOUR

AN OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT IS CONTINGENT UPON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT TEST BASED ON THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION.  THE WORK HOURS ARE TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.

 

Performs assistance to the Larimer County Household Hazardous Waste program and Larimer County Government inter-departmental hazardous waste disposal.  Interacts respectively with regard to household and County inter-departmental hazardous waste disposal issues, assists in processing and packaging waste for shipment, and maintains the Larimer County Household Hazardous Waste Collection facility.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·         Provide customer service at the Household Hazardous Waste collection facility.

·         Assist in the screening and acceptance of household hazardous waste from program participants.

·         Assist with inventory and storage of hazardous waste.

·         Keep the collection facility clean and maintain an appropriate level of hygiene.

·         Assist in the consolidation of household hazardous waste through the use of lab-packing and loose-packing methods.

·         Assist with bulking various waste materials by pouring off materials into drums or through the use of a commercial can crusher.

 

OTHER DUTIES:

·         Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

·         Safe working procedures.

·         Light equipment operation.

·         Environmental regulations such as Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) and Department of Transportation Act (DOT) is preferred.

 

 

 

ABILITY TO:

·         Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.

·         Understand and follow Department and County rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standard operation procedures.

·         Ability to wear an air purifying respirator during certain tasks requiring respiratory protection.

·         Read labels on waste materials.

·         Perform heavy labor in a variety of weather conditions.

·         Learn to operate light equipment.

·         Perform duties independently without close supervision.

·         Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

·         Prepare and maintain clear, accurate, and concise reports.

·         Work Saturdays.

·         Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 85 pounds.

·         Walk, stand, squat, and bend.

 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:  Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Experience:

·         One year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities.

Training:

·         Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Licenses/Certifications:

·         Current OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations Certification preferred.

·         Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver’s License.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

·         Must be able to lift 45 pound drums to 36 inch height.

·         Must be able to lift up to 85 pound paints up to 44 inch height.

·         Must be able to repetitively lift 10 pound paint cans.

·         Must be able to lift 50 to 65 pound paint buckets.

·         Must be able to push/pull with 85 pounds of force.

·         Must be able to sit to operate a forklift or complete paperwork for up to 2 hours per shift.

·         Must be able to stand up to 6 hours per shift.
