Larimer County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services and the Larimer County Search and Rescue team were called out to locate a missing hiker at 6:35 P.M. on Saturday, October 18, 2008.
JIMMY CARTER, a 76 year old male from Dallas, TX, and his brother were camping in the Crystal Mountain area for the weekend. Mr. CARTER left to go on a short hike around 8:30 on Saturday morning. He stated he would return around 12:00 noon. When Mr. CARTER didn't return by 6:00 P.M. his brother called the Larimer County Sheriff's Office to report his brother as missing. Mr. CARTER was last seen wearing an orange cap, a green/orange reversible vest and blue jeans. The two brothers have been coming to this area for the last twenty years to hunt.
Fourteen members of the Search and Rescue and Emergency Services responded immediately and began to search the area East of Crystal Mountain and southeast of Larimer County Road 27 and 44H. Temperatures dipped into the low 40's overnight.
Today a new crew of twenty-four members of the Larimer County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services, Larimer County Search and Rescue, the Sheriff's Support Team and the U.S. Forest Service continued the search. The crew will be aided by all terrain vehicles and trackers with dogs. The Colorado National Guard helicopter crew was briefed around 1:00 P.M. and will be starting their search pattern.
If anyone has come in contact with JIMMY CARTER, please call the Larimer County Sheriff's Office Dispatch at 970-416-1985.
