Creativity and an appreciation for trash are requirements for students entering the 7th Annual “Trash to Treasure” Recycled Art Contest, sponsored by the Larimer County Solid Waste Department. The contest welcomes entries from individual K-12 students or groups throughout the county. Entry deadline is April 3, with grand prize winners being chosen later that month.
All artwork must be made from trash or scrap items and will be judged on creative use of those items. Entries can be designed to hang on a wall or from a ceiling, or to be free-standing and not more than 18 inches wide or deep. Individual and group finalists will be chosen by April 14, and from them grand prize winners will be selected. The winning groups will be awarded $50.00 and winning individuals will receive $25. All grand prize winners will have their artwork on public display at the Garbage Garage Education Center. The remaining finalists will be awarded a prize package of "recycling goodies."
The contest is being held in conjunction with an April 18 Open House at the Garbage Garage, the Solid Waste Department's waste and recycling education center. Finalists’ artwork will be on display at the open house, which runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Visitors at that event will have the opportunity to vote for the grand prize winners. The grand prize winners' artwork will become part of a Garbage Garage exhibit until the next Reusable Art Contest is held the following year.
