April 19, 2017
Fort Collins based Larimer County Search and Rescue (LCSAR) is receiving a grant of over $14,000.00 for needed equipment from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. This grant will purchase numerous items including scene lighting for remote rescue scenarios, expanded radio communications equipment for wilderness searches, a generator for powering an operations center anywhere in the county, and a new highline launching kit to set up rescue lines across rivers and ravines. Averaging over 60 missions each year, LCSAR provides an invaluable service for the community of Northern Colorado. All members of LCSAR are volunteers operating under the Sheriff of Larimer County.
“We are very excited about being able to assist your organization and ultimately improve the life-saving capabilities of your community.” – Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation
This grant will provide enhanced equipment to LCSAR thus expanding search and rescue capabilities for the community. An example of this is the scene lighting that can be carried into remote areas or set up on river banks illuminating an area for patient care. The equipment will be purchased in early summer 2017.
In 2005, the Firehouse Subs founders established the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities to first-responders and public safety organizations. Through the non-profit 501(c)(3), Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has given more than $25 million to hometown heroes in 46 states, Puerto Rico and Canada, including more than $373,000 in Colorado.
LCSAR is an all-volunteer, non-profit corporation that provides professional mountain search and rescue personnel and resources to the county and the region as well as providing free public safety education on various topics. The 80-person staff answers 80 emergency SAR calls a year and spends 400 hours per person per year training, responding to incidents, fundraising and providing public education. LCSAR’s annual budget averages $40,000 and is obtained primarily through donations. Team members must provide their own personal gear and transportation. Contributions can be sent to LCSAR, 1303 N. Shields S., Ft. Collins, CO 80524-1014 or via the Donate button on our website - https://www.larimercountysar.org/
