Famed Colorado nature photographer John Fielder will present his latest project and book, Ranches of Colorado, at 7 p.m., Friday, November 20, in the North Ballroom of the Lory Student Center on the CSU campus. A portion of proceeds from the event will support the work of the Legacy Land Trust, a non-profit land conservation organization in northern Colorado.

 

Ranches of Colorado is a collaboration between Fielder, Colorado Open Lands, and the Colorado Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust to feature the landscapes of 50 working ranches across Colorado. In addition to capturing the beauty and rustic western heritage of these ranches, the book also asserts the need to protect these important and dwindling pieces of Colorado’s history. Fielder will be presenting highlights of his book in a multimedia presentation. 

 

The alliance between Fielder’s project and Legacy Land Trust is a natural fit.  Since 1993, Legacy Land Trust (www.legacylandtrust.org.) has been protecting ranch and farm lands, scenic and natural areas, and wildlife habitat in Larimer, Jackson, and Weld counties. One of the ranches Legacy Land Trust has helped protect is the Eagle Rock Ranch in the Chalk Bluffs area of Weld County, which is also featured in Fielder’s Ranches of Colorado.

 

John Fielder is one of Colorado's most famous and well-respected nature photographers and has produced dozens of books, calendars, and other media, including Colorado 1870-2000, A Colorado Winter, Colorado’s Canyon Country, and more.

 

Suggested donations for admission are $7.50 and $5.00 for CSU students with ID, but all contributions are welcome. Fielder will be signing copies of Ranches of Colorado along with past works during the event.
