Multiple people have been arrested for supplying Fentanyl that killed a woman in 2023.

On the morning of July 27, 2023, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a death in the 5400 block of North Highway 1 (north of Fort Collins). A man woke up and found his adult female partner deceased. Investigators found evidence of narcotics use at the scene, and a toxicology report later identified multiple drugs in the woman’s system, including methamphetamine and Fentanyl.

Investigators spent months conducting interviews and collecting digital evidence to identify the people who supplied the fatal pills to the victim. After extensive forensic analysis, they identified Fort Collins residents Gary Brown, Diane Petryszyn, and Roland Rideout as the suspects.

Investigators learned that Fort Collins Police Services had an active case associated with Brown’s home in the 600 block of Justice Drive address. FCPS had received numerous neighborhood complaints about suspected drug trafficking activity. On February 29, 2024, Fort Collins Police Services conducted a search warrant at the home with the assistance of LCSO investigators. During the search, investigators located methamphetamine, several hundred Fentanyl pills, and three firearms. One person was cited and three people were arrested:

Gary Brown (DOB 05/19/71)

  • Unlawful Distribution of Fentanyl Resulting in Death (DF1)

Brown was arrested by LCSO and issued a $750,000 cash only bond by the Larimer County Court.

Christopher Bonin (DOB 02/10/59)

  • Controlled Substance - Possession <1g Fentanyl (DM1)
  • Controlled Substance - Possession Schedule I/II/III/IV/V (DM1)

Bonin was arrested by FCPS and issued a $1,250 personal recognizance bond by the Larimer County Court.

Alissa Garcia (DOB 09/01/92)

  • 2 Warrants - Failure to Appear

Garcia was booked on her warrants and issued a $50 personal recognizance bond and $500 cash only bond.

Bryce McClain (DOB 07/03/86)

  • Cited for Controlled Substance - Possession <1g Fentanyl (DM1)

The two other suspects associated with the distribution resulting in death case were later located and arrested:

Diane Petryszyn (DOB 02/08/88)

  • Unlawful Distribution of Fentanyl Resulting in Death (DF1)

Petryszyn was issued a $500,000 cash only bond by the Larimer County Court.

Roland Rideout (DOB 05/21/81)

  • Unlawful Distribution of Fentanyl Resulting in Death (DF1)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence (F6)

Rideout was issued a $750,000 cash only bond by the Larimer County Court.

“The safety and well-being of our community are of the utmost importance to us at FCPS, and we are proud of the strong working relationships we have with our partner law enforcement agencies in the region. The collaborative efforts of officers, deputies, and detectives are invaluable in combating the devastating impact of illicit drugs, such as fentanyl, which knows no jurisdictional boundaries. By working together, we are able to make our region a safer place for all,” said Fort Collins Police Assistant Chief Adam McCambridge.

The Fort Collins Building Department condemned both homes for mitigation. Additional charges are pending. Booking photos are not available at this time.

“Fentanyl is destroying lives in our community, and we’ll continue working with our partners to hold dealers accountable,” said LCSO Investigations Captain Bobby Moll. “These distribution investigations are challenging and resource intensive, but every pill we get off the street is a potential life saved.”

The charges are merely an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.

If you or someone you know is struggling with Fentanyl, opioids, or other substance use, resources are available in our community:

[CORRECTION: The initial press release stated that a search warrant in the 3500 block of Windmill Drive occurred on the same day. This search was conducted in August 2023 and yielded user amounts of methamphetamine. The home was associated with suspects in this case and was condemned for mitigation.]
