Description

There are 177 acres of ponderosa pine and mixed shrubs on moderately steep slopes with rocky, shallow soils and interesting rock outcrops. The property provides habitat and movement routes for many kinds of wildlife. If you walk quietly and keep a sharp eye out, you will most likely see signs of elk or deer.

To find recreation opportunities amid incredible vistas and wide open spaces, take US Hwy 34 west to County Road 29 and turn left (look for the sign that says Carter Lake). Travel south on County Road 29 for approximately 2 miles. Turn right on County Road 18 E, and continue approximately 2 miles to the entrance station where permits can be purchased. Return to County Road 18 E and go west to Pinewood Reservoir and Ramsay-Shockey Open Space.

Management Plan

The Ramsay-Shockey Open Space is included in a larger vision of the Open Lands Program, designed to protect thousands of acres as part of the Blue Mountain Conservation Project.  Over all, this project protects significant natural and cultural resource of the area while providing non-motorized recreational opportunities.
