Officer-Involved Shooting
The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been activated to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
On November 2, 2023 around 11 p.m., Fort Collins Police Services received information about a vehicle in the area associated with a possible kidnapping out of Weld County. A BOLO (be on the lookout) was sent out to local law enforcement agencies. Around 12:50 a.m. on November 3, Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies located a vehicle matching the description near Shields Street and Elizabeth Street. They activated their lights and sirens and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop. Deputies pursued the vehicle, which eluded law enforcement for several miles through west Fort Collins.
Just after 1 a.m., a deputy deployed tire spikes at the intersection of Horsetooth Road and College Avenue. The suspect, who was traveling east in the westbound lanes, drove at the deputy. The deputy fired his weapon, and the suspect drove away, traveling west on Horsetooth Road. The vehicle stopped near Horsetooth Road and Shields Street, at which time a male and female got out. The man ran but was safely taken into custody a short time later. The woman remained at the scene. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries and has since been released.
The suspect vehicle drove away, traveling north on Shields Street. Deputies deployed tire spikes near Shields Street and Davidson Drive. The vehicle swerved to avoid the spikes and crashed. The male driver was extricated and transported to an area hospital with serious injuries sustained in the crash.
No bystanders or law enforcement personnel were injured during this incident.
CIRT was notified and has responded to take over the officer-involved shooting and crash investigation. Fort Collins Police Services is the lead investigating agency and further information regarding this incident will be released by that agency.
